Defibrillator

This video takes place on the actual Nike Hercules Missile lift at the Marin Headlands, California. The loop plays from the perspective of looking up at the blown out white sky. The image is accompanied by the audio of the nearby hydraulics that lift and descend the storied Cold War weapon that often came close to initiating global war. The viewpoint provides the viewer clear heavens and a blank plane for mental projection amongst the nuclear magazine’s relentless soundscape. The large archaic steel gates close periodically to pitch black and loop again; the sonic atmosphere renders a perpetual mechanism always at work–proclaiming safety and testing empathy.
